Ask an Architect is a quarterly series of Q & A sessions created by Archiafrika that features architects and their works, designs, teachings, and philosophies.

 

Spring 2022

We are very excited to present the Spring 2022 series, featuring Amber Wiley (Mar 29), James George (Apr 4), Andrew Chin (Apr 11), and Cesar Freitas (Apr 18).

 

Part1: Amber N. Wiley

Amber N. Wiley, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Art History at Rutgers University. She specializes in architecture, urbanism, and African American cultural studies. Her research is centered on the social aspects of design — architecture as a literal and figural structure of power. In this session, she discusses how African art and design have impacted architectural history, urban history, African American culture, and more.

 
 

Part 2: James George

James Inedu-George is an award-winning architect and the design head of HTL, based in Nigeria. His work focuses on the “MegaCity”, and the adaptation and reengineering of global cities for maximal efficiencies using their inherent typologies.

 
 

Part 3: Andrew Chin

Andrew Chin is the associate dean of Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Architecture and Engineering Technology. He is also a tenured Associate Professor and has taught design studio and thesis research classes at FAMU. His research focuses on the development of architecture programs at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

 

Part 4: César Freitas

César Freitas is an award-winning architect, and Principal of CÉSAR FREITAS ARQUITECTOS, a multidisciplinary urban planning, architecture, design, and engineering firm based in Cape Verde. He has also previously served as President of the Order of Architects of Cape Verde. His work focuses on utilizing urban planning as a solution to some of the global crisis the world face today.
